The author of the bestselling "Close to the Falls" continues her story as her family moves to Buffalo where she takes on many personas -- cheerleader, vandal, HoJo hostess, civil rights demonstrator -- with the same gusto she exhibited as a child working split shifts in her father's pharmacy.

Add a CommentI loved the book, which is the sequel to the " Too Close to the Falls" by Catharine Gildiner. It is well written to the point. Lots of metaphors like the first one. Even though it is a sequel one could easily read the second book without reading the first since her childhood is briefly summarized at the beginning. Life of a high school and college student in 1960's. The meeting with Howard Jonhson (without realizing) while she was working as a hostess at one of the Howard Jonhson's restaurants is hilarious.
An excellent follow-up to her first book, 'Too Close to the Falls'. I found this to be as entertaining as the first and couldn't put it down. It's hard to imagine a little girl (and subsequently, a teenager) with so much spunk, tenacity and life. And... If you need more, the author is working on a third and final book, to be released next year. I can't wait!
