Wonderful feel good movie!
In this fashion tour de force, Meryl Streep’s native panache combines with Ann Roth’s ravishing early-50s costume designs to make the 5-foot-6-inch actress appear every bit as formidible & statuesque as the 6-foot-2-inch Julia Child. It’s just too bad, so sad that this movie completely blew a golden opportunity to deliver the visual equivalent with food.
Fabulous study of two women writers of different generations & their relationships. Sixty-year-old Meryl Streep gives an outstanding, meticulously observed performance as 36-year-old Julia Child, & Stanley Tucci is equally top notch as her supportive & adoring husband.
Good - Julie & Julia (2009) 123 min. For anyone whose resolution included dieting, stay away from this film – it’ll give 101 reasons why you should indulge. Julie & Julia is a wonderful film – actually, it’s two movies in one with Meryl Streep playing Julia Child during the early 1950s as she begins her career in French cuisine and Julie Powell, who works as a telephone assistant and helps those that suffered from the effects of 9/11 in 2002. As a means of escape from the emotional drain of her work, she decides to prepare all the recipes in Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” in one year. The film draws the viewer in to their respective worlds with mouth watering recipes, acting performances, and well-paced narrative; and in the end, I’m not sure what story I enjoyed most. Streep is excellent as Child and may garner an Oscar nod at the 2010 Oscars.
Very sweet and funny. Although it lacks a certain substance, the film was very enjoyable. Meryl Streep was great to watch. Warning: all the cooking will make you hungry!
