This is the story of Tobias Eaton. It starts when he was still living in Abnegation and goes through his story of being an initiate after choosing Dauntless. I liked learning little things about his story from before he met Tris but I thought the story would be more about their relationship from his point of view. A very small portion of the story was about that.
It was really interesting to be able to look at the scenes of Divergent (the first book) from Tobias's point of view. Great read.
I love the short stories by four. He did a great job telling his side of the story in Divergent.
This is a great series! I love these books. My only negative comment is that some things in this book do not match up with the things that happened in "Divergent". I do however highly recommend this book. I have found that it was much more enjoyable to read after I've read the other three books. And I think that it was very helpful in knowing Four's side of things better and how he views the people around him.
I love this series! Since I am always confused about which book comes next and stuff here's a guide: #1 Divergent #2 Insurgent #3 Allegiant. And Four is Tobias's point of view and takes place in the past but it also overlaps a few chapters into Divergent (it contains spoilers too)
It was amazing to see Four's side of things because we didnt really know what he was thinking or how he felt until Alleigent. It was a nice change of perspective and very good on Veronica Roth's part
This was a nice flashback for me after already reading the series... It also reveals some of Four (Tobias's) past before meeting Tris which wasn't really mentioned in the series... This is a nice short read!
(Also please follow me (blue_wolf_710) above... Thank you!!)
I never read the divergent series.. But I have seen the movies.. Four is by far one of my favorite characters this book is perfect before Tris, before the first jump.
A MUST READ. Ive seen the movies, well the first two, and when i saw the book i was thrilled to be able to read it. the book is extremely detailed, and so much emotion in it that you are transported to a different place. in this case the book and movies are paralell
If you have read the Divergent series and loved it than you should read Four because it gives you parts of the first book and before the first book from Four's perspective.
Recommended for: those who have already read the Divergent trilogy, or at least the first book. These stories assume a familiarity with the various factions, and other information you discover in the trilogy. Also, there are definitely spoilers for the original series in this book.
The four short stories that make up the majority of this volume are a prequel of sorts for the Divergent trilogy, telling some of the back story for Four. Roth writes in the introduction that she had initially intended to write the series from the point of view of Four, but it wasn't until she switched to Tris's POV that the writing began to flow. Nevertheless, these four stories are a good insight into what makes Four the man he is, and give the reader more information on the Dauntless faction and some of the other Dauntless characters from the trilogy. A really great addition to the original series, but not necessary reading to understand the plot of the trilogy.
Quick enjoyable read that explores Tobias' history before Divergent starts (first three stories) and revisits a time toward the end of Divergent to reveal a little more information about those events. While Tobias' life was certainly no walk in the park, this book provides a bit of relief from the severe darkness of the main trilogy (from late Divergent onward), and it was nice to revisit a few of the happier scenes.
This is a backstory of Four/Tobias' life, before he joined Dauntless and met Tris. Obviously, the struggles and hardships he faced are narrated in this book, through his perspective. his is a behind the scenes collection of important parts in his life: initiation, choosing, and more. I, personally, found that this did not meet my standards, for I had already pictured how Four's life was after reading the trilogy. But for those who prefer reading over dreaming, this would be a good narrative or standard of what his life was like. Definitely, readers should invest time in this if they liked the Trilogy or the movies. 4/5

These are some extra backstories about one of the main characters of Divergent, Four. This should be read after the Divergent Trilogy has been finished, just so that there is a better understanding of what is going on. These extra stories are entertaining in themselves, and are good for any readers that were curious about what happened before the plot of Divergent occurred. This isn't necessary to read after the series has been completed, but it is a good addition to the original series.

Wow!!! I loved the book! Everyone who has read the trilogy has to read this!
It was so nice to find what Tobias thought of everything and how he handles it.
AMAZING book. I like the change of perspective and it really hooks you in. But it is too short, I finished it in less than a day.
Loved it. It was really good! Bit short, But in Fours perspective, I now want Christina's Perspective! Good work. I recommend.
This book is amazing! We get to learn all about the most secretive character in Divergent.
I found the character of Tobias to be more interesting than Tris in the trilogy, and I enjoyed getting to know him better in this book.
Can't wait to read this book! don't really know how it will turn out. some people like and some don't.
I rated Roth’s ‘Four’ at the same level as her first three books in the Divergent Collection. Doctor-at-Bass- Fishing. Taylor A.
I love how this book is in Tobias (Four)'s perspective. He always seemed mysterious, and this book, for me, truly reveals his life story.
