Excellent read if you love tension. Only bogs down with two short chapters of formulas that were way over my head for understanding, (which I think the author did on purpose). Lots of surprises too.
This is one fantastic read. If you are interested in WW II events, you will learn so much from this story regarding life during this time period. It is a mix of true events and some creative interpretation that will take you on an…

I can't stop thinking about The One Man. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster! I felt as though I were actually there, smelling the stench of human waste and wasted humans. Witnessing the brutality of the guards and wondering if I'm…

This book is a little different twist on a holocaust story. It is well written and even plausible, although getting into and out of a Nazi concentration camp would be a one-in-a-million chance. The characters are well developed and you…

This story may be a good reminder of WW2 policies by various governments to not take in refugees. We seem to be going thru this same experience again. You know the old saying history repeats itself.
Read this fictional account with a box…

The topic of this book demands it be rough. It's a hard read. Emotionally distressing from start to end. Except for the odd spots where it turns into a long, drawn out, incredibly dreary scientific text, or shivers itself into strange…

A riveting read. Kept me engrossed right to the end. Some events near the end were a little hard to believe but still entertaining. This is a peek into the atrocities that we never want to live through.

Excellent, excellent book, I can't praise it enough. Every once in awhile you read a book that really stays with you long after you've finished reading it. For me, this is that book.
Kudos to Mr. Gross for writing such a tremendous book.

With all the high marks this has received, I guess I'm in the minority.
As with many books dealing with the holocaust, descriptions of life in the camps are poignant & terrifying. That is the book's strong point. But the actual story…
A well written and credible novel with accurate details. I was moved by the plight of the characters and Gross's portrayal of them was great. Themes such as inhumanity, racial issues, Jews, concentration camps were entwined. A very…

Compelling historical fiction with an intriguing "what if" plot. Good characters blending family, duty, and heroism. Although it shows some of the atrocities of WWII and the concentration camps, it stays at the surface so as not to cause…
