Five stars! Why? Because this is a story of family, friendship and mostly faith. Being convicted of a crime that you didn't commit is frustrating. But being on death row for over 30 years for a crime you didn't commit is beyond that. …

Excellent! Hinton shares how he spent 30 years of his life in death row in Alabama for a crime he didn't commit, showing how weak the case against him was, and how he was set up. He also shares how he managed to keep hope, and survive, but…

A riveting account of Anthony Ray Hinton's wrongful conviction and three decades long incarceration in an Alabama prison. His ability to hang onto his humanity and hope is remarkable.

This book will make you furious at the criminal justice system and the racism that drives people to casually throw someone else's life away. Made me think differently about the death penalty and whether it should be an option. I would…

An inspiring story, but depressing in how easy injustice can be started and maintained.

I read this after reading "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson. Both excellent books. "The Sun Does Shine" tells Hinton's story from his own view point and was often very touching. ("Just Mercy" was my eye-opener from the attorney's view…

This book is not an easy read. It's utterly heartwrenching. It's infuriating. It's also one of faith, forgiveness, and hope. Ray Hinton was convicted of killing two people in two separate armed robberies, each a restaurant manager. He…

This book left me feeling angry and sad, but the message of hope is uplifting. The part where Hinton’s lawyer called him to tell he was going to be released, I actually cried. All those years of fighting for the truth to come out was worth…

Wow! What a fantastic book. Anthony Ray Hinton has experienced one of the worst injustices I've ever heard of. Hearing him tell his story, it is absurd that he was arrested, absurd he was found guilty, and unbelievable that it took so long…

Ray Hinton lived for 30 years on death row 30 feet away from the execution chamber. 54 inmates were executed during that time, mostly through electrocution, and many others died from suicide. He gives a visceral account of what it is like…
