This book has some beautiful, transcending moments. And some embarrassingly amateurish and clumsy ones. The author writes with a confidence that she doesn't usually earn. Most of the characters are unlikable. The male characters are…

Following the curves of history in the first half of the twentieth century, Fall On Your Knees takes us from haunted Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, through the battle fields of World War One, to the emerging jazz scene of New York city…

I couldn't put the book down, but I found the storyline to be unrealistic throughout - like a fantasy rather than reality. Maybe that was the point. I was disturbed by some of the character's behaviour, especially James and Mercedes.

A morbidly fascinating story about a fatally flawed man and his daughters. Extremely well-written. Could not put it down. This book is not for the prudes among us.

A compelling first novel by an award-winning Canadian playwright. MacDonald knows how to set scenes that leave you breathless--with laughter, deep recognition, or shock! She portrays the earliest years of our country’s century, following…

I found the description of the sexual child abuse offensive and although I read this book to the end, the story line did not make sense most of the time which showed the author's lack of experience writing novels. I would not recommend…

SPOILERS ------I hated Mercedes from the start, I actually disliked her more then the father and he was a sick bastard. Don't use god as an excuse for anything. Hating your sisters because people like them for them even if one of them is…

I didn't get it. I do not like the composition of the book, lengthy description of "girls' games". I do not know if this is good or bad, but I could not read beyond half of this book.

I loved this book just as much when I read it the second time. Compelling story with such incredibly flawed characters. It's funny how much I liked it when none of the characters are at all likeable.

I had to stop reading this book. What is up with so many of Oprah's Book Club novels being utterly depressing?! If I am going to read a book I don't want to have to suffer through a fictional character's misery without any relief.

I finished this book, but had to think twice about it, particularly after Katherine's mother performs a post-mortem C-section with a large pair of scissors. Really a dismal tale, about how many lives one or two dysfunctional people can…

Getting into the book was not especially easy, but the once in, I couldn't put it down; I remember quite clearly, it was about three in the morning when I finally finished. Found several parallels with The Way the Crow Flies, but it…

This book will mess you up. In a good way. It is intense, and the characters really come alive. I'm proud to say it has a Canadian author.

I like the author's smart way of writing. It's as if she's hovering above the characters, drawing the reader's attention away from the obvious and to what isn't easily obvious. Disturbing story, but like The Way the Crow Flies, a book…

THIS IS THE MOST BORING BOOK I EVER READ ... The family dynamic and the hardships that the Piper sisters had to face were no doubt a real issue but it dragged on and on and on and on ...Im not one to not finish a book, and usually i can…

I have read/listened to this book twice (a rarety for me) and loved it both times. The subject matter is a bit hard to read about, but it's brilliantly written and hard to put down. One of the best books I've ever read!

Compelling, shocking - a great read. It's a page-turner while still being literary. I highly recommend it.
