I have mixed feelings about this book. There are some bad triggers, but the language flows similar to Garbriel Garcia Marquez. It is a beautiful poem, a sad story. Glad i read it once, probably won't read it again. Why i chose this book.…

Wonderful book; heartbreaking, poignant; the story is told in vignettes which are out of sequence, so it requires patience to discover how it all fits together. Well worth the effort it takes to read.

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy won a Booker Prize in 1997 and it’s not surprising why. The main characters are twins and the story is set mainly when they are young. The story is revealed through the narrative voice of Rahel, the…

The author has a very unique, interesting writing style and I really tried to like this book. The character names threw me, I found it difficult to follow in places and just couldn’t make it through to the end.

The God of Small Things is a remarkable debut novel from Arundhati Roy, an Indian author who won the Man Booker Prize for this very work. This book is a story of a family caught in the middle of social and political change. More…

Purple prose alert! I agree with the other reviewer that it is unreadable. Tried to see its good points. Because it is such a well-known Booker prize winner, are we pre-disposed to thinking this book is better than it actually is? Way…

This is the third or fourth time I have read this since it was published and awarded the Booker. I enjoy it more with each reading. And I think it is superior to the novel she published last year.

Beautiful, well written story -- I just returned from visiting the state of Kerala in Southern India (my guide recommended the title), and the novel captures life in that area so well. 5 Stars.

One of my all time favourites.
After visiting India, I developed a life long love affair with its food, people and culture. Reading this novel was like going deep sea diving for the first time, except this novel isn't about fish! Roy…

What sets Roy's wring apart from others is her creative use of language. Imagine the farting of mud as steps are taken. She was you in the story telling hat happened before and hat happens after, but it is is not till the end that she…

The sense of place and point of view are part of what makes this story a poignant, unforgettable tale of love and innocence lost. I read it this week as this year's Man Booker winner was announced. Amazing storytelling, steeped in the…
