My favorite of all the Emma adaptations since the 90s. I've enjoyed other versions, but this one is the one I personally keep returning too. Having just reread the book, this one stands out as being the closest in spirit to how I…

Enjoyable Materpiece theatre, great actors. Thoroughly enjoyable.

At 4 hours its longer than most film adaptations, but its good in that the characters and their conflicts take time to develop. The acting, sound, sets, costumes, and even games are all top notch - I doubt it can ever be made into a…

The two comments right before mine have taken the words from my mouth. I have watched all the Emmas and I've watched this one three times. It's the best, hands down. It is superbly re-watchable!

For film adaptations of English period dramas, in particular those based on Jane Austen novels, you cannot go wrong with the BBC version. In this production Romola Garai becomes exactly the irrepressible, high-spirited Emma you read in the…

as a self challenge, i've watched all the Emma dvds now and this one for my money is the best version. ms garai's emma evolves from a headstrong, impulsive girl, into a thoughtful and caring woman before our eyes and johnny lee miller…

This is a lovely version of Emma. The acting is good. The costumes and scenery are delightful and well thought out in regard to the period. The camera work was nice and smooth, connecting each scene to another well. The scenery and…

Well-done version of Jane Austen's classic, with Romola Garai as the wealthy and spoiled Emma, and Johnny Lee Miller as her older, sensible neighbor who is quietly observant. Her matchmaking and mentoring attempts for a mysterious orphan…

Enjoyed the Gywenth Paltrow 2 hour movie version but this 4 episode miniseries is very good! The Two leads have the chemistry, and this version gives you a back story of the the 3 main characters Emma, Frank Churchill and Jane Fairfax. 2…

Found this very annoying, all that twittering going on, expected much better from PBS.

I LOVED this movie!!! It is funny, entertaining and even my husband sat through it with me. One of Jane Austin's best stories and this version is beautifully done; from the acting & soundtrack to the photography.

Beautiful version! My favourite of all 4 film versions offered at the VPL. Perfectly captures the spirit of the book in every way. Readers might enjoy these VPL books - (1) "Emma An Annotated Version" edited by Bharat Tandon (2) "Jane…

Emma is too ridiculous in this adaption. Emma is supposed to have a degree of elegance about her, which Romola Garai does not portray in this adaption. If you want to see a good adaption, watch the 1996 adaption with Gynweth Paltrow.…

I haven't read Emma all the way through, but I absolutely ADORE Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller. They were perfect choices for these characters, and this adaptation gets full marks from me!

Romola Garai's performance is the only element that persuades me to rate this film as high as I have. For the best version of "EMMA" see the 1996's version starring Gwyenth Paltrow. That's all.

An excellent interpretation of Jane Austen's novel, with developed supporting characters and lovely period costumes, hairstyles, etc. The leads have great friendship chemistry, and the emphasis is more on the multiple subplots than on the…

Fine version of Austen's book. Miller, Greig, Gambon do fine; Romola Garai is very appealing as the heroine.

One of our favourite movies, we borrow it regularly for an uplifting evening together. Jane Austen has been compared to Shakespeare as one of the best British authors, I was a bit skeptical at first but her insights and great plots have…

Brilliantly interesting film of a J. Austen classic--what was said lightly, almost not, a mention, a recapture of thought--the interior of smaller upper class British social safety, as the possible world may be falling apart from outside,…

My pick for best film/TV adaptation of Emma to date. For the first time, Emma comes across as a smart and sensible character, despite all her blind spots and mistakes. All the characters are believeable, not caricatures. Great!

This is the best film adaption of Emma so far. Ramola Garai does an amazing job at playing Miss Woodhouse, and her facial expressions and acting make it seem like it is all happening for real. Johnny Lee Miller (Mr. Knightley) and Ramola…
