Born in Hamilton, Ontario (in 1949) - Singer, songwriter, musician, Stan Rogers was probably about as patriotic as you could get when it came to the Canadian content of the lyrics in his songs.
With his rich, baritone singing voice, Rogers (who often played a 12-string, acoustic guitar) had a really special gift for writing finely-crafted, traditional-sounding folk songs about the working people of the Maritime Provinces and the Canadian Prairies.
This "Best Of" CD contains 16 tracks in all, written and recorded by Stan Rogers (accompanied by various musicians) between the years of 1976-1983. Three of my favourite tunes are - Northwest Passage, Last Waltz and Fogarty's Cove.
*Note* - Stan Rogers (34 at the time) died (in 1983) from smoke inhalation while trapped in a fire aboard an Air Canada jet-liner that was stationed on the runway in Cincinnati.
Incredible songs that capture the essence of Canada. Some rousing, some melancholic, some wistful and some inspiring. Includes the beautiful love song "Lies"
