Agree with freeman [below] there is a bit too much medical detail but the plot is an interesting twist on man against man and man against machine. Philip Kerr is a dry wit and a clever writer. Skip some of those footnotes and just get on with the plot and enjoy the book.

Being a fast paced book reader as I am, the medical details at the beginning really discouraged me. Didn't really feel like finishing the book. Probably a great read for medical enthusiasts.
