The cover of this novel is definitely deceiving, It leads you to believe that beneath the covers lies another teenage romance of broken hearts and unrequited love.
The novels of author Alan Hunter have been the basis for a series of TV episodes featuring Chief Superintendent George Gently. And that's enough to get me to crack the covers.
Having said all of that, I have found the TV version of Hunter's novels very engaging. The actors who portray the chief protagonists are very real and PS they don't smoke pipes.
In fact, the TV versions are, in my opinion, far superior to the novels. This is one of those rarte cases where the screen version actually does come off better than the paper copy. Nonetheless, go ahead, enjoy the novel.
