I never saw this ending coming! Although parts of it were slow (partly because character development is essential for a good whodunit, and partly because a lot of the Miss Marple mysteries are slower in general), it was still a good read. One of my favorite Miss Marple mysteries (the others being "A Murder is Announced" and "Sleeping Murder").
Always, always fantastic! The true Queen of Crime... :)
Excellent, one of Agatha Christie's best! Once again, the revelation of the murderer at the end leaves you stunned!
Emma and Lucy should fall in love and run away from all these useless men.
Haven't read much Christie; recently tried "The Murder at the Vcarage" and enjoyed it more than I expected. This one wasn't as good, imho, possibly because it didn't take place in Miss Marple's native village, and she was absent for a good part of the story. It all seemed a little routine. I did enjoy the train stuff at the beginning.
This little gem rolls along as fast as a express train. Mrs. MCGillicuddy may be a bit dotty but she knows what she sees and what she sees from her train window gives her the willies - a man strangling a woman. When the police don't believe her, she finds help with her friend Jane Marple. And we just know that Miss Marple won't let this one get away!
When Mrs. McGillicuddy awakes from her nap on the 4:50 from Paddington, she is shocked to see a murder happening on a parallel train. Her lurid description brings about no real response from a doubtful constabulary so she turns to her dear friend, Jane Marple. Jane is sure that her friend is telling the truth and sets about in her busybody way to discover the body. This book has several differences with the television adaptation with Joan Hickson, so expect some changes if you have already watched the video. However the writing is superb and the characters totally engrossing. And a very enjoyable ending!
