A New York Times Bestselling Author -- Detective Superintendent Ewert Grens of Three Seconds returns in a riveting mystery that centers on perhaps the most controversial subject in the modern criminal justice system: the death penalty. In Ohio, after a decade on death row for the murder of his girlfriend at seventeen, John Meyer Frey dies unexpectedly of hearts disease before receiving either his just punishment or redemption. Six years later, on a ferry between Finland and Sweden, a singer named John Schwarz viciously attacks a drunken lout, leaving him in a coma. Investigating the incident, Ewert Grens finds a startling connection between the Frey and Schwarz cases.

The third book in the Ewert Grens series. First title, The Beast, is unavailable. The second does not appeal, so want to try this title

The main detective, Ewert Grens continues in the Scandinavian tradition of deeply flawed (human) lead characters. The narrative of the pros and cons of Capital Punishment got a bit strident for me at times, but I would love to spend more time with Grens and his crew.

One of the most interesting Swedish books of our times - different, but as good as "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I agree with Mommies2 that the main detective is the highlight, although the plot is good also - Capital Punishment played out between Ohio USA & Stockholm Sweden!

Well written and thought provoking plot. Not a high action book but it kept you interested as you read it. Love the main detective in this book.
