First saw this in the theatre with my parents, then listened to many times on reel-to-reel audiotape. Definitely a trip down memory lane, but I was alternately nostalgic at the music and writhing in dismay at the absurdities. Life sure was different then in River City, USA ...
Minus half a star for "Shipoopi" but otherwise flawless.
If you like a movie with lots of dancing and singing with very little story, you will love this DVD. It is good for all ages. I liked it.
One of my all time favorites. Re-watch every couple years and never tire of it.
The Music Man. My mother was in the stage musical when she was a kid. I must say, some of the songs were catchy. Like '' Gary Indiana '' or ''We got trouble in river city''. The only down side was the stupid little girl who says '' Ye Gods! '' all the time. Aaaah!!
The Music Man when it came out won all sorts of awards. It isn't hard to see why. Robert Preston and Shirley Jones need no stand ins for their singing parts. They are great together, but Preston's 76 Trombones Leads the Parade is my favorite. Take this home and you will laugh and sing along with a great score. A Five Star Musical in every way!
I saw the movie and I had liked it
I had laughed through the movie
this is a family one to watch
I'm a great fan of musicals and I think this one has the cleverest dialog and, not the best, but the most interesting songs. I forgot just how entertaining a musical could be with these great arrangements and fun plot, not to mention reasonably good acting!
This is a great version.
The newer version lacks the old world feel of the classic musical.
This is the good version. The newer one stinks.
