Recently I heard a radio news report about an aspiring writer in Sioux Falls, Idaho, who discovered inspiration in the customer waiting room while having the tires replaced on her car. She returned to the garage with the car's of family and friends in order to continue the writing spurt. It's too bad that Norman Levine apparently never stumbled on a similar muse. His spare and flowing style of writing reminded me of the writing of Doris Lessing so I found it interesting that Levine mentioned Lessing in a story in this collection.

This is a collection of short stories by Levine. The background to the stories is a tad dated - well over half a century ago. So some of the cities' landscape and culture have changed. This is an easy read as the writer's sentence and paragraph structure is fairly straight forward. Some stories are more interesting than the others. Worth a look for me.
