Going solo is less silly than other Roald Dahl book but still is very well written
I really like these books because there interesting and fascinating Ronald Dahl lived and its kinda behind the scenes
In Going Solo, Dahl relates some of his wartime experiences. Like all of his stories, it always feels slightly surreal though as always, when he relates something (shooting at a German bomber for example), he has the gift of making you see exactly that - all without lots of extraneous descriptive prose and in a way that you think: yes it must have been just like that.
Brilliant stuff! I wish I'd known this sequel to "Boy" existed years ago, but better late than never. It really makes one marvel at how much the world and our values have changed in the past seventy odd years- mostly, but not always, for the better.
