On the eve of his military graduation, Teito Klein recalls a past long forgotten when his family's enemy appears. His flight leads him to the Barsburg church, home of the seven ghosts. There is much more to Teito than his hidden memories though, and now he must seek out the truth while fighting in the midst of a battle that will determine the fate of empires. In this world, the seven ghosts, grim reaper-like beings, are worshiped like deities because they protect mankind from Verloren and his soul-eating kors. The mythology behind this religion is well thought out, and plays directly into the story. The art is top quality with lots of dynamic action shots, expressive faces, and different perspective shots. It's weakest aspect is in its battles though. While they are brilliantly drawn, not enough pregnant moments are shown, so you need to spend some time piecing together what is happening. The panelling problems are bearable though because of the art, great characters, and fascinating premise. This fast-paced, exciting fantasy is well worth reading.
