Adapted from true stories of military canines, this book tells three stories of four legged heroes. Good for dog lovers and that one kid who always comes in asking for war books.

A fascinating and unique set of three stories around army dogs. Well worth a read.

My favorite of the three stories was the last, which seemed to have the most heart to it. I really felt for the veteran, Langdon, who had to leave his dog Sheba behind at the end of his tour of duty because she was "Army equipment" -- leaving him alone with his ghosts. In the other two stories, the dogs had more personality than their owners.

Three short vignettes tell the story of three different war dogs and their masters. In World War One, Boots is a "mercy dog," helping to find wounded soldiers in the horror of the no man's land between the trenches. In World War Two, Loki is a disobedient sled dog at an Allied outpost in Greenland. After the Vietnam War, a returned veteran is haunted by memories of his unit, and his dog Sheba - a scout dog trained to alert soldiers to booby traps and ambushes.
