This saga spans 5 generations, as the family moves from various European countries to Palestine/Israel, based, more or less, on the author's family. The style ranges from the realistic to the romantic to the magical realistic. There are several 1st person narrators, and a 3rd person narration. All this can get a bit confusing. Yet the story is very involving, beautifully written, humorous, sorrowful. Many of the characters, given here 10-12 pgs, are worthy of an entire novel. At least it had a genealogical chart to help keep track of who the people were and when they lived. I gulped it in two days.

The more I read, the faster I started skimming though this. Nomi Eve is a young writer with a lot of talent and potential, but it felt too romantic at times at the expense of the story.
