Six kids. One shipwreck. One desert island.

Luke, J.J. Will, Lyssa, Charla, and Ian. They didn't want to be on the boat in the first place. They didn't want to be stuck at sea with a bunch of strangers. But when you're in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there's no easy way out. And when a terrifying storm hits, there's no way to fully prepare.

It's all about survival.

I read this in grade 2.
I remember trying to explain the plot line to my friend at school, but giving up and just saying that you have to read it.
I don't really remember much about the book (I'm older now), but I do remember that I thought the whole (minor spoiler alert) bomb part was really cool, and in general, that it was THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!
I want my brother to read it (he's now in grade 2) but don't know whether it's actually appropriate for him???? Any body have a recommended age to read it?

Recommendation by the TD Summer Reading Club team running programs at the following branches: Greely, Richmond, North Gower, Metcalfe and Vernon branches. (Ages 10+)

This book really pulls you in! The story is about six kids (each unique in personality) that are registered to work aboard a tall ship for a few weeks in order to sort out their bad behaviour. The plot and the characters were so interesting -- I felt almost like I was watching a movie rather than reading a book because of Korman's writing style.
The main theme of the book is survival even though most of the book is set on a boat. The book's ending has a great cliffhanger which motivates you to read the next book in the series.
And if you like Korman's survival theme, he has other kid survival series: (1) DIVE and (2) EVEREST.
