The new Oxford edition of Shakespeare's complete works reconsiders every detail of their text and presentation in the light of modern scholarship. The nature and authority of the early documents are re-examined, and the canon and chronological order of composition freshly established. Spellingand punctuation are modernized, and there is a brief introduction to each work, as well as an illuminating and informative General Introduction. OUP and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre this year embark on an official partnership to celebrate the plays both in print and performance -- this reissued andrejacketed edition of the complete works underscores the commitment.

My Fourth Desert Island Book: O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space, if I had this one book to take with me. This is a bit of a cheat for a desert island book list, containing multitudes as it does, but what can I say: I LOVE Shakespeare, the way his language unpacks into volumes, the variety of his plots and styles and feelings: one brilliant man's life's work all compiled into one handy volume. Hours and hours of reading aloud pleasure. A bottomless treasure troveā€¦ If you've been turned off Shakespeare, he deserves a second chance, and a third, and a fourth, and a twentieth. He'll wait.
