This is a milestone book for many reasons but particularly because of a significant change in Kate's relationship status (in a good way or bad way I'll let you find out for yourself) and a shift in the type of adversaries she's facing. They're tougher, meaner, smarter and a little too close to the family tree for comfort.

The Andrews' duo is shifting gears now and I'm eager to find out how this new phase in the life of Kate Daniels will pan out.

Book 4 of Kate Daniels series, preceded by Magic Strikes (and short novella Magic Mourns) and followed by A short novella Magic Dreams and then by book #5 Magic Slays. Very action packed story that follows the life of Kate Daniels and her love interest, the Beast Lord, Curran. The book starts off with a very disappointing "naked dinner" that leads to many misunderstandings, but luckily most problems are resolved resulting in a great adventure.

Kate Daniels, a mercenary in a future Atlanta changed by waves of magic must finally confront her secrets, powers, past, and family when her aunt, feared since pre-historic times, threatens the entire city.

At the same time, she must decide if she wants to pursue the relationship with Curan, Beast Lord and leader of the local Pack of shapeshifters, that has been hinted at and flirted with through the preceding novels in the series.

Easy 5+ star rating. I'm so glad there's a #5 in the series because I'm so not done with Kate & Curran yet! I LOVED this book and still highly recommend this series to all UF fans. I'm loving each book more and more as I love the characters more and more in this strange but exciting post-apocalyptic Atlanta. The plots in each of these books have been incredibly unique and crafty.

The pranks in this book are hilarious…i.e. office chair. The timing was good comic relief from the conflict between them in the beginning of the book and then THANK GOD…what happened after he said "Do you miss me, Kate?" …finally what we waited for 4 books to happen!

Wonderful relationship development in this book…not just sex but intimacy and friendship. We see them work through difficult issues.

Loved what Kate did in her very first Council Meeting! It's why I love her so much...her spunk and loyalty.

I can't wait to jump into #5 and see what new tricks Kate comes up with next!

I really liked this book. I'm surprised the library is only ordering one of them.

I like this series. Am going to buy the book for my library.
Miscommunication = people at the wrong place + pride = makes for some strange situations. a life threatening situation - a secret revealed. You will have to read the book to find this situations. This book can make you think yet it has plenty of fights - to me it has something of everthing.

“It seems that the young woman made some indelicate suggestion of a threesome...When I got there, Miss Nash was standing by the hot tub in a small bikini, pointing the business end of a SIG-Sauer P-226 at her fella and concerned members of the hotel staff, while dunking the scantily clad female's head under the water and asking, "Who's diving for clams now,b*tch?”
