Jane Fonda is modern again. I prefer not to hear any actor use profanity. It lowers the level of fun, and kids are sponges, and absorb these words very quick (they already know too many!) This dysfunctional family is funny, real, and full of twists and turns.

Quite good fun to begin, but incessant talking and little action got a bit much.

A great mix of funny with a just a dash of sadness. If you like dysfunctional family films such as Rachel Getting Married, Buffalo '66, or Silver Linings Playbook, you'll love this dark comedy.

A rare convergence of great acting, great directing, and a splendid screenplay. I watched it two times and I'm a guy (posting on my wife's account) who normally isn't into "romance dramatic comedies", or whatever the heck they're called now that "chic flick" now is politically incorrect. And yes, I come from a badly messed-up family so I can relate to this. Don't most people? Are there any "normal" families??? That would be so boring.

Very sweet. Good cast. Laughs and tears. What more can I ask for?

Like " Almost Christmas 2017," this is a comedy drama about a large family gathering under one roof to observe Shiva, planned for a week. An all star cast to portray a variety of adults working out their present and past relationship problems which often led to hilarious scenes. And what was the wise old dad thinking? Quote:
Judd: I don't understand the Shiva. Mom's not even Jewish, and dad was an atheist.
Wendy: A Jewish atheist, and this is what he wanted.

The story was a good satire, not heavy-handed like The Little Fockers. The acting was somehow appropriate. I liked Jason Bateman's character's considerateness to others, and how that changed as the situation around him changed. I watched this movie while reading Anne Patchett's Commonwealth, about another dysfunctional family (how many normal families ever get a book or a movie?) The siblings could all know each other.

'Nice', was enjoyable but not enough for me to want to purchase. A bit slow and somewhat, 'been there before'.

Enjoyed it.

Sort of an 'immediate family only' version of the Big Chill - lacking the great sound track. They all seem to lead lives of quite desperation except Adam Driver as Paul the youngest who hasn't realized it yet. Despite my negativity we enjoyed it and found it rather sweet in moments. Bateman is very good and I always enjoy Jane Fonda. Tina Fey was just sad. She made me sad for her. Rose Byrne is good & surprisingly quirky. Made a nice change from guns & violence.

Many quotes in IMDb already, not sure about these:

...but I could use a friend here. A little honesty for a change. Just between you, me and the sunrise.

It'd be a terrible mistake to go through life... thinking people are the sum total of what you see.

It's hard to see people from your past... when your present is so cataclysmically screwed up, you know?

My mom is in love. Well, that's nice for her. The specifics are very hard to explain. Um, very, very hard. But I realized something. I have never been in love. Not like that. I've been too busy chasing this idea that I had about this perfect life... and life is not perfect. It shouldn't be perfect. It should be unpredictable and irrational... and complicated. And I want a complicated life... where I can love someone like that.
