Written by an MD who herself experienced chronic issues at a young age and started asking questions.

A more restrictive dietary approach to control inflammation than other books out there, but could be and has been extremely helpful to people who need more extreme intervention.

For people with chronic autoimmune conditions that are not improving, this book would make a good starting point. This book is especially relevant for those who must avoid gluten as Dr. Myers explains why gluten is a such a problem, and also how cross reactivity can continue to thwart healing. Yes, the lifestyle changes can be difficult, but worth it if one starts to feel better. Some people following the solution are lucky enough to eventually be able to lower their medication needs. Others, who have no pharmaceuticals for their conditions, may find this their only hope for improvement.

I found Amy Myers very credible and knowledgeable. She is MD and has an autoimmune disease and tried many solutions until she found this one. Also the previous comment is misleading, she recommends working with your physician but also informs the reader about the side effects of the current treatments for autoimmune diseases. What convinced me was the fact that she gave up her vegan diet because meat was necessary to provide her with the nutrients she needed to stay healthy. However, it's a tough regime to follow.

I read this book per a request from my Dr. I was very put off by the strict protocol but I can see the value of it. If you've suffered with an Autoimmune disease and medication has stopped being effective take the time to read through this book. I'm working on eliminating many foods and the recipes in here are pretty good. She also speaks to people who've little time which I appreciate. Batch cooking many meals will help in a pinch and this book has weekly meal plans which are helpful. Get used to NOT eating sweet breakfast foods. The nice thing is tastebuds quickly adapt. I found I feel much better eating a gluten free, dairy free and mostly sugar free diet. It takes some adjustment but the recipes in this book help.

To say that the Myers Way is easy to follow is really misleading. Almost everything you can be used to eating such as oatmeal, pancakes, rice, tea or coffee are off limits. It is true you can lose weight on this program and I have lost ten pounds that I did not want or need to lose! I went from 110 pounds to less than one hundred eating what she recommends.
