DON'T READ IF NOT READ THE BOOK who was sacagawea is about sacagawea. she is a shoshone, who was born in what is now idaho in 1789 or 1790. the shoshone was called snake indians because they lived near the snake river. her name means bird woman. when when sacagawea was 10 or 11, the minnetaree attacked and 15 of her tribe died. she was kidnapped with her friend but her friend escaped but she didn't. sacagawea was taken to a village and charbonneau took her as his wife. by the age of 15, she was expecting a child. Jefferson wanted to be the first to explore the west because Great Britian had it's eye on it. Lewis and clark would lead the expedition. they needed men who can hunt, build boats or forts, who can handle horses, and men who can write journals were needed too. The explorers needed someone who can speak shoshone to get horses. Charbonneu and sacagawea joined the trip. On feb.11,1805, sacagawea had her baby, she had a special powder to hurry along the birth. Ten minutes later, her baby was born.
