The 31/2 stars are for the production values and the stop-motion animation (LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE CHEEKY CYCLOPES!) that, as always, Harryhausen gives an internal life and personality to (GO CYCLOPES GO! BASH THOSE FOOLS FLAT WITH THAT BIG TREE TRUNK! And enjoy your BBQ nitwit!) Unfortunately, Katherine Grant's so-so performance and the world's WORST child actor as the genie brings the whole movie down. Concentrate on Thorin Thatcher's evil wizard, concentrate on Harryhausen's genius, concentrate on Kevin Matthew's ability to do much with a stereotyped 'hero' part, CONCENTRATE ON THE EMOTING CYCLOPES (did I mention the cheeky Cyclopes?), and ENJOY! (Did I mention the four-armed snake woman? She's almost as much fun as the Skeleton/Sinbad duel (three cheers for Kevin Matthew's skill),and the Cyclopes (did I mention him yet?)

Shot in the then-dazzling film-process called "Dynarama" - I remember, as a wide-eyed kid of 10, being absolutely struck with total awe while watching this cheesy Fantasy/Adventure picture from yesteryear.

With its introduction of several delightfully monstrous, stop-motion creations by effects-man, Ray Harryhausen (including a ferocious, one-horned Cyclops - Wow!) - This pre-CGI film was a child's most spectacularly exciting nightmare-thrill come true on screen.

But, alas - (As one might expect) - Time (yes-unforgivable time) has not been at all kind to this 1958 Sinbad, the Sailor, production. No. It hasn't.

Remembering my excitement as a fascinated child - I honestly did try to cut this 60-year-old relic some nostalgic slack - But, unfortunately - As a jaded viewer of today - I could only grade Sinbad's 7th Voyage with just an "average" 2.5-star rating..... (*Watch exciting movie-trailer*)

High camp as far as the plot and dialogue, but Ray Harryhausen's pre-CGI special effects are a marvel. The fighting skeletons amazed audiences of the time and represent a milestone in technological magic.

For the time, awesome special effects! Still cool in my opinion. The battle scene with the cyclops and the dragon - epic!

If you love animation you must see this movie. Inspired by King Kong, Ray Harryhausen is the genius who brought to life the stop motion creatures in this movie. He in turn inspired the animators who created the AT-ATs in The Empire Strikes Back, the mine car scene in Indiana Jones, and innumerable others.
