Another great addition to the Manga Classics line. Underneath its surface, Jane Eyre is a story about a young women who learns to respect herself, and bases her decisions on that respect. Even when she finds love (a love which is true, but the man is married), she does what she feels will be right for herself. This eventually results in a what she sees as a more equal relationship, even though it is due to a tragedy. Jane is someone that you learn to love; she starts off a rather angry child, although rightly so, and only later grows into a more level-headed individual. Most of the manga's space is dedicated to her time at the Rochester house, but enough is given to her early life, and to her independence prior to the ending to flesh her out. This is another solid adaptation, touching upon many of the important plot points, and themes, without rush. SunNeko Lee once again delivers another beautifully rendered take on the characters and period through the illustrations. Drama is enhanced through these visuals, and should help to make this classic more accessible to certain readers. For those who are interested, more information about the original and the time period can be found in the back.
