Between 2002 and 2008, the world embraced a wave of cheap credit that allowed people to enjoy spoils they usually wouldn't be able to afford. However, when the bubble burst in late 2008, everything came crashing down, including most of Europe. Here, Michael Lewis investigates the causes of the 2008 financial meltdown and projects what awaits the countries that were, and still are, most affected.

Boomerang could be Lewis' unofficial sequel to his prior book, The Big Short, given that he's now looking beyond Wall Street at the effect of the global financial crisis on specific countries. Those earning a bit of scrutiny are Iceland, Greece, Ireland, Germany and California (not a country, obviously, but has a GDP that rivals one).

Excellent journalism here, but not as engaging as The Big Short unless you follow the confusing language of global finance. The narrative does get stronger with each successive chapter so give it time to grab your attention.

This is the CD version which seems to bring the essence of the financial crisises in Iceland, Ireland, Greece, the USA and Germany to focus. Just too much info. But, the emphasis is that governments have not done their jobs (elected officials especially). Some have committed frauds (not paying taxes), greed of both policitians and especiallyi civil servants (USA, Greece). Hubris of extremely inexperienced and foolish youth and men. One could go on and on. Its so disgusting to read/hear, one cannot help but feel no remorse for these failed countries, for that is what they are. A definite read.
As a footnote; anyone castigating paying taxes, or excusing an unbalanced municipal, provincial, or Federal budget should do a definitely will change you mind. Greece has many copiers (California for one).
