From New York Times bestselling author and former U.S. secretary of state Condoleezza Rice and Stanford University professor Amy B. Zegart comes an examination of the rapidly evolving state of political risk, and how to navigate it.

The world is changing fast. Political risk-the probability that a political action could significantly impact a company's business-is affecting more businesses in more ways than ever before. A generation ago, political risk mostly involved a handful of industries dealing with governments in a few frontier markets. Today, political risk stems from a widening array of actors, including Twitter users, local officials, activists, terrorists, hackers, and more. The very institutions and laws that were supposed to reduce business uncertainty and risk are often having the opposite effect. In today's globalized world, there are no "safe" bets.

POLITICAL RISK investigates and analyzes this evolving landscape, what businesses can do to navigate it, and what all of us can learn about how to better understand and grapple with these rapidly changing global political dynamics. Drawing on lessons from the successes and failures of companies across multiple industries as well as examples from aircraft carrier operations, NASA missions, and other unusual places, POLITICAL RISK offers a first-of-its-kind framework that can be deployed in any organization, from startups to Fortune 500 companies.

Organizations that take a serious, systematic approach to political risk management are likely to be surprised less often and recover better. Companies that don't get these basics right are more likely to get blindsided.

Golly, I certainly look forward to reading this book, if there's anyone who should be familiar and expert on political risk, it is Condoleezza Rice!
After all, didn't she claim that // nobody could have forseen 9/11 \\ after numerous others had predicted it? Remember the FBI agent, Mr. Williams, from Arizona who warned FBI HQ that the Arab students there were training // as if they were planning on flying into the World Trade Center Towers\\? And an excellent 1997 fictional book written by a British expatriate author living in the south of France, detailing how hijacked planes would be flown into NYC skyscrapers?
And, in fact, a 1996 terrorist/counterterrorist simulation created at the Pentagon, detailing how terrorists would hijack and crash airliners into Wall Street, the Pentagon and the White House. And what a coincidence, one of those planners, a career US Navy type, would retire and become the command pilot of the fateful Flight 77 which would crash into the Pentagon! And aboard that Flight 77 would be a physicist from the Naval Surface Warfare Center who, the previous year, researched the most effective way to sabotage and destroy city skyscrapers? And an attorney lady aboard who was involved with the partner of her law firm, a partner possessing an interesting background, including that he had been one of the // investigators \\ into the strange explosion of Flight 800?!?! And another lady, Mrs. Olson, Solicitor General Ted Olson's third wife, who had been in charge of that // hanging chad operation \\ for the Bush campaign during the 2000 presidential election. [Strange, it almost appears fortuitous that people with such knowledge would perish that day?!?!? Ted's on his fourth wife now, so no need to be concerned!]
Also, most bizarre that an audit group, the Financial Management staff with the Defense Intelligence Agency, would receive a 2:00am email to an emergency morning meeting at the Pentagon's west wall, where most of them would be killed, with a few seriously injured, by the crashing into them by Flight 77? The same audit group which had just uncovered the fact of unaccounted for $2.3 trillion in missing funds?
