This is a difficult read. The plot is dense and the story is all sad and somewhat hopeless. The end if not too satisfactory so the reader is left disconcerted and wondering why we were escorted into the life of this sad girl her naïve mother and self-centred father and grandfather. Despite her interesting life, Vera is not a woman I would spend time with at a cocktail party.
