"WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES isn't just another book. It is a gift of profound insight, wisdom, and love. An oracle from one who knows."
Alice Walker
Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D., Jungian analyst and cantadora storyteller shows how women's vitality can be restored through what she calls "psychic archeological digs" into the ruins of the female unconsious. Using multicultural myths, fairy tales, folk tales, and stories, Dr. Estes helps women reconnect with the healthy, instinctual, visionary attributes of the Wild Woman archetype.
Dr. Estes has created a new lexicon for describing the female psyche. Fertile and life-giving, it is a psychology of women in the truest sense, a knowing of the soul.

Everyone everywhere should read this book, the earlier in life the better. Fantastic to read and reread. I am myself fearlessly and authentically, resulting in my relationship with myself, the people around me, and life being more loving, compassionate and happy.

So I had to return this book before I finished reading it, but I liked it enough that I have ordered a copy for myself off amazon.ca. The author provides a different myth or story in each chapter, then analyzes the story using psychological terms. It's an analysis of the female soul, telling us what happens when it is damaged and acknowledging the way that society encourages women to be less than who we are. It's brilliant. I think every woman should read this book. I know that I'll be reading it more than once!

This is a must-read for every living being. Pinkola Estes weaves together stories of healing, discovery, and acceptance by combining her incredible skill with familiar folktales, and psychoanalysis that leave the reader with a sense of purpose, a sense of hope, a desire to confront what is not healthy and soul-nurturing in our lives. These are empowering, sometimes hard to swallow, medicine stories about the strength of the Wild Woman within us all.

It is a book you will always learn from regardless of how many times you've read it.

A great read about the female archetype, comparing women to wolves in their strength, grace and loyalty (in the style of Jung).
