The biggest shortcoming of this book is that it it dates from 1981. And a lot of Saudi has happened since then. However, Saudi history pre-1980 hasn't changed and that's what makes this book so insightful.
Saudi Arabia is more about a family than a country. It is about Islam. It is about hospitality and telling your guest what you think he wants to hear rather than' perhaps, the truth.
It is about a country so poor it has had to beg for loans from banks and other countries. It is a country so rich that it cannot spend the money as fast as it earns it.
It is a book well written. It is a book that will feed your curiosity about the Middle East.
