Very good, but somewhat slow. Varied quotes at beginning of each chapter, related to each. Short chapters.

Chief Inspector Morse and Inspector Lewis investigate a murder. A reporter lives next door to victim and may have been the intended victim. He may be a blackmailer. These people have ties to Christ Church university masters. There is a political race in the district as well as among the masters. Morse has a drinking problem and past women problems. Also has a hidden unusual first name, starts with E.
