Goth girl Jenna Kelley can read people's minds without even trying. When her alcoholic mother is hospitalized, a stranger shows up who says he's her long-lost dad and promises a better future. Her gifted classmates think the offer is too good to be true, but Jenna is so determined to have a real parent around that she might have lost her ability to listen.

The heart-breaking truth that this book uncovers, in it's very simple writing style, is that everyone wants to be loved and treasured by their parents. Too bad it was a all just a mind game - but most of us know that from the very beginning. Happy endings are only the name of the game in this book if you count the support of friends.
