Okay -- I have already gotten a lot of flack for my thoughts on this book. But here goes nothing: My favorite aspects of this book were everything from 2/3 to the end. Basically anything that took place in the witches' house. I loved that house by the way. Can we talk about that house being one of my favorite characters? It had such sass and personality and emphasis on the story. Loved it. Also, I want a whole origin story on the aunts Sarah and Emily. I want to know how they met and I want to learn about them as teenagers. I am honestly more intrigued about what is going to happen after all of this and the time travelling section than this particular book. Also, the book was well written. There were sections that could have been cut as they were rather lengthy but it was descriptive and intriguing. I also liked the dynamics of the creatures and the history and politics behind it. It was a well built world. But this book has such a low rating because I couldn't stand the relationship. I am not a fan of a possessive, protective, "mate" relationship. Matthew was not my favorite and Diana needed to step up. I know she was suppressed by her family but I was so sick of her helplessness. The whole thing was so Twilight-esque and I struggled through it. Finally, there was terrible structure. There was no climax, there story had so many twists and turns and adding of new things I couldn't hardly keep up. It was one thing after another and not in a suspenseful good way. The whole time things were popping up out of no where. Like the time travel and the baby and Sophie and Nathaniel. I hated how unstructured it all was. It was so irksome. I was told I should read the rest of the series because I would get the historical fiction I enjoy and less of the romance. So maybe. If I get bullied into it. But we'll see. It's a weak and unimpressive start for sure.
