Not sure what to make of this book. In one sense I wish it was written less as a diary and more as a story but at the same time, the rawness of the events unfolding makes it all the more real. I think this is one topic I will never forget. The savagery and brutality of the Japanese is like nothing of heard of before. This part of ww2 was glossed over in the education system. In some ways it makes the makes the holocause seem tame. All in all, the first half of the 20th century may go down as the lowest point of humanity in recent memory. There seems to be no respect for life in ww1 and 2. Am I glad I read this. In some ways yes, in other ways I'd rather not have imagined children being bayoneted. Guess it puts life into perspective and gives me more appreciation for the allies fighting in ww2. I'd hate to imagine how the world would look had we lost.
