Arguably the best part of The Accident is that the book is filled with satirically sharp observations about the publishing world, capturing the coltish energy of entry-level new hires and the cattiness and desperation of older cohorts. Overall, The Accident hits all the genre pleasure points. It’s a thriller that enjoys skewering many of the tropes and caprices of the publishing and media world. For a beach read, it’s not bad, but with some closer critical scrutiny, its twists and turns can feel belabored and forced. I felt like the parts where I should have been yelping with anticipation I just meh-ed.
