This is the film version of a successful Broadway play which won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It isn't an easy movie to watch, but the writing, and especially the wonderful cast make it worth watching. The movie portrays a deeply disfunctional family which has passed down its misery from generation to generation. Meryl Streep rivals the foul-mouthed character Martha in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" as Violet, the drug-addicted, cancer-ridden matriarch. This is a grueling story of the destructive force of addiction, the danger of anger, the hurt of betrayal, and the pain caused by keeping secrets. It's the polar opposite of "Leave It To Beaver" and definitely not for the faint-hearted.
