This third book in the Ian Rutledge series keeps Hamish, the voice in his head, to a more minor role of intuition, rather than constant interference. It is a change for the better. Having to deal with the local police in three towns is a wearing experience for Rutledge, especially Hildebrand who makes up his mind quickly, usually wrongly and refuses to listen to anyone else. The suspects are eliminated by rigorous checking of clues and digging into backgrounds. This one kept me guessing until near the end. Very good plot and characters.
