When I learned this book was set in Cashiers, NC , a place my family once called home, I eagerly checked it out. I found many familiar locations (Glenville Lake, Yellow Mountain, and more) that added to my reading experience as I pictured the area. Jacob is a very sympathetic character, repeatedly trying to do what's right in terribly wrong situations. Not for the faint of heart, this novel contains some brutal scenes. In fact, were it not for the setting, I may not have read this book, but thanks to David Joy's fine wordsmithing, I'm very glad I did.
