Premise is simple. Woman receives book. Woman reads books. Woman realises this book is about her. Woman is horrified by secrets that are now out in the open. Woman tries to deal with this. Woman's life gets quite difficult. We have a novel set to inherit the readers of Gone Girl, The Silent Wife, and others like it. This book is pretty much fairly okay and is a fairly 'light' thriller despite some of the content. I say light because of the plain language, which makes it a quick read as well as easy to follow, but the writing is perhaps too light in that it sort of falls flat. The revelations given here are far from earth shattering, the final one just seems like it's trying to subvert the whole story but doesn't manage to pull it off. It reads more like the author changed her mind rather than it being a natural progression of the story. What is interesting here is the the treatment of Catherine, our lead female character. The Secret, depending on how it really happens, ends up with the men in her life treating her very differently depending on which version is the truth. The point was very well made but, like I say above, it just sort of seems like a change of plan more than the actual way the story was going. All in all though it's certainly an engaging thriller and fans of the genre will certainly find something to enjoy here. I couldn't put the book down!
