Most definitely, nothing but baseless, hateful, Nazi propaganda. This lunatic’s “struggle” almost destroyed Germany, killed millions of innocent men, women and children, engulfed the world in years of misery, famine and war. To read this book one needs a lot of fortitude, since it will be impossible for the reader to distance himself from what this monster meant to the world. Incidentally, Hitler’s party was called Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, which means German National SOCIALIST Worker’s Party; in other words, the nazi were lefties. Records kept by the Germans prove they exterminated millions of communists, Czechs, Greeks, Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, mentally and physically handicapped, Poles, resistance fighters, Russians, Serbs, socialists, Spanish Republicans, trade unionists, Ukrainians, Yugoslavians, etc. According to David Rousset, prisoners in concentration camps were divided into six categories and given patches on their clothing for identification purposes. Ordinary criminals wore green; political prisoners wore red; black was worn by slackers, prostitutes, procurers, etc.; homosexuals wore pink; conscientious objectors wore purple; Jewish wore yellow. Martin Gilbert estimates that the death toll under the Nazis during the Holocaust is over 15 million non-combatant people; while the number from the Service d'Information des Crimes de Guerre: Crimes contre la Personne Humain, Camps de Concentration (Paris, 1946) is 26 million. (Another excellent source of information, not available through CLEVNET is: Waiting to be Heard: The Polish Christian Experience Under Nazi and Stalinist Oppression 1939-1955, Bogusia J. Wojciechowska) Only in Poland 6,028,000 people (22% of its total population) were eliminated by the NAZI; over half of them were Christians (Forgotten Holocaust: The Poles Under German Occupation, 1939-1944, Richard C. Lukas). According to Wikipedia “Political Catholicism was a target of Hitler's 1934 Night of the Long Knives. German clergy, nuns and lay leaders were also targeted after the Nazi takeover, leading to thousands of arrests over the following years.” And in the words of George Lachmann Mosse: "Had the Nazis won the war their ecclesiastical policies would have gone beyond those of the German Christians, to the utter destruction of both the Protestant and the Catholic Church.” Alan Bullock; Hitler: A Study in Tyranny: "Once the war was over, [Hitler] promised himself, he would root out and destroy the influence of the Christian Churches, but until then he would be circumspect." The Response of the German Catholic Church to National Socialism, Michael Phayer (published by Yad Vashem): "By the latter part of the decade of the Thirties church officials were well aware that the ultimate aim of Hitler and other Nazis was the total elimination of Catholicism and of the Christian religion. Since the overwhelming majority of Germans were either Catholic or Protestant this goal had to be a long-term rather than a short-term Nazi objective." A concise history of Nazi Germany, Joseph W. Bendersky: "Consequently, it was Hitler's long range goal to eliminate the churches once he had consolidated control over his European empire." Two articles on this matter: www.yadvashem.org/yv/en/education/courses/life_lessons/pdfs/lesson8_4.pdf and www.nytimes.com/2002/01/13/weekinreview/word-for-word-case-against-nazis-hitler-s-forces-planned-destroy-german.html For this and several other reasons, I can’t see why Christians or Conservatives would sympathize with this monster—unless someone is able to give practical examples. I find it very appropriate that libraries shelve this title in the Adult area, away from the young, whose minds can be polluted by such hatred and bigotry.
