I'll just cut to the chase and list the pros and cons of this book. Pros: Trisha (the lead) is a very likeable little girl, and never loses sight of the ultimate goal. Survival. For a nine year old girl that is impressive. Not to mention her instincts and attention to details of the past which help aid in her survival. Her love for Tom Gordon. The scenes where she talks with him and him being her guiding light so to speak through the woods. I like the portrayal a lot. Stephen King is always great at describing the surroundings and making you feel really present in the action. Cons: I hate hate hate hate the similes used for describing the "Monster" (at the end of this book). I knew what is was all along, and I wish he would have described it differently. More realistically actually. When Trisha finds out what the Monster is... I like how it ties together with Tom Gordon. That's about it for the likeable "Monster" scenario. What a bore.
