Being a person of the left persuasion, I was intrigued by a book, critical of Trump, written by a conservative Republican, David Frum. Frum believes in democracy and in this book he explores the authoritarian acts of Trump and his followers, who have little concept and concern of what constitutes a democracy. Frum doesn't say it, but I will say it - America's new fascination with authoritarianism has come about partially because Americans are largely ignorant of the horrible consequences of the rise of totalitarianism/fascism in Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia and Japan in the last century. And today, those without a college education, know little of the techniques of totalitarian leaders. It is also interesting to note, that Frum confesses that he was wrong when he rejected the LGBT community. Frum also admits now that the nation's wealth inequality, worse now than in the last 100 years, is not good for the health of our democracy. He must be horrified of the Republican tax cut (after the release of his book) in which the vast majority of the cuts (perhaps as much as 84%?) went to the top 1%, exacerbating even more the nation's inequality.
